How do we decide what names to put in our songs?

People often ask us how we decide which names to record in our songs. We can record any name and we regularly get orders from parents of children with very unusual names who struggle to get personalised gifts elsewhere. We always have a large range of the more common names in stock.

We use the surveys of top 100 baby names published by the Office for National Statistics every year to decide on our basic stock list. The latest data published is for 2009.

There have been some changes amongst the boys names. For 14 years, the most popular name was Jack. This has now been relegated to no. 2 and has been replaced by Olivia. No change for the most popular girls name - it's Olivia.

The top 10 names for boys and girls in 2009 were

There were six new entries to the top 100 boys names: Aiden, Arthur, Frederick, Jude, Stanley and Austin. The folioing names were pushed out of the top 100: Blake, Jay, Billy, Corey, Zak and Sean.

Only three new names appear in the top 100 girls names: Heidi, Sara and Mya. These pushed out Maryam, Alicia, Courtney and Abbie. (The list for 2008 had two names tying at no. 100 and so four names were pushed out of the list.)
